Secret of Thin People

The secret of Thin ppl...
http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/content/0,21770,1170...
According to one article, it said that foods with a high water content — fruits, vegetables, water-based soups and stews, and cooked whole grains — are low in calories but satiating.
These are the summary of the article.....to read more, click the link above~

- Whether consciously or not, many thin people follow the strategy of starting out with a sizable soup or salad, which leads them to eat less for the rest of the meal.

- Foods with a lot of water can help you perceive that you’ve eaten more.

- Successful weight maintainers tend to eat five small meals a day rather than three squares, which may make it easier to scale down portions.

- Genes are only partially responsible. Perhaps 30 percent of being thin is genetic — the rest is environment.
If you’re raised playing sports and eating healthy, unprocessed foods, chances are you’ll continue those habits into adulthood, significantly raising your odds of staying slim.

- Thin people don't skip meal. The number one behavior that leads people to lose control is skipping meals.

- People should increase the variety of low-calorie-dense foods they eat — such as vegetables, fruit, and soup — to get the nutrients they need.

- Thin volunteers were more likely to stand, walk, and fidget. The researchers noted that the obese participants sat, on average, more than two hours longer every day than the lean ones did.

- Simply moving around more, taking walks during the workday, and parking your car at the far end of the parking lot can burn many calories. But regular exercise is important, too.

- One of the findings of the NWCR is that slim people do weigh themselves regularly. At the first sign of weight gain, they go right back to their weight-loss plan.

- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A recent study of breakfast eaters in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association backed up other findings that people who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight than those who don’t.

- Our bodies have a budget, like our checkbook. We should ‘spend’ on what we eat selectively, not compulsively.

- Understanding what causes you to put on pounds can go a long way toward preventing them.

- Because stress, sadness, anger, loneliness, and grief can send anyone to seek solace in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, the successfully thin person knows mood-driven eating when she sees it and defends against it.

Best time to take a nap

Haha...I like to sleep n my interest is to sleep:)

And according to one article I read, it said that the best time to take a nap is from 1pm to 230pm.(erm...a bit hard for those working ppl..)When you r working, there's nothing such as "TAKE A NAP" in your dictionary. it's a luxurious item to think of when you start to work.

Well, as stated by Michael Smolensky, a professor of environmental physiology, an ideal nap should last 15 to 20 minutes. More than 30 and you may end up with sleep inertia — and feel even more groggy when the nap’s over.

Drink Tea, good for health

Well, just read one online article. It said that tea is proven good for health. As research had indicated that tea is rich in disease-fighting antioxidants.
According to the writer Sarah Engler, there are a few reasons why we consume tea:

Healthy teeth.
Fluoride in tea leaves may help prevent tooth decay.

Heart health.
People who consume three or more cups of tea a day have an 11 percent lower rate of heart attacks than those who drink less, according to a study presented to the American College of Cardiology. Other studies suggest that tea may also reduce levels of LDL cholesterol and repair blood-vessel damage in heart patients.

Cancer prevention.
Evidence of tea’s cancer-fighting ability, due to flavonoids (strong antioxidants), is scant but growing. Some studies have shown a link to a reduced risk of certain cancers — including stomach, colon, and lung — and a lower recurrence rate of breast cancer.

Little knowledge..

What Causes Hiccups?

Excessive eating, alcohol, excitement, or stress can overstimulate the phrenic nerves, which control the diaphragm. The diaphragm then contracts involuntarily. At the same time, the glottis, the part of the larynx where the vocal cords are located, closes up, says Patricia Raymond, M.D., a gastroenterologist in Chesapeake, Virginia. The result is the spasms and the odd hic sound that repeat every few seconds. A typical case of the hiccups lasts only a few minutes, but some can last much longer. While there’s no proven cure, Raymond suggests trying an action that resets the phrenic nerves (akin to rebooting your computer when it’s frozen), such as holding your breath or breathing into a paper bag.

Why Is Yawning Contagious?

No one knows for sure, but a study published in a recent issue of the journal Cognitive Brain Research theorizes that yawning in response to someone else’s yawn may be an empathetic response, similar to laughter. “A yawn can be triggered not only by seeing a person yawn but also by hearing, reading about, or even just thinking about yawns,” says Steven Platek, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Drexel University, in Philadelphia, who directed the research. Platek and his colleagues believe that contagious yawning may be a primitive way of modeling our feelings after other people’s.

Why Do You Get Goose Bumps?

Because you’re cold or frightened. When you feel chilled, the muscles around your hair follicles contract, causing the hairs to stand up to create a layer of insulation, explains Richard Potts, Ph.D., an anthropologist and the director of the Human Origins Program at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, in Washington, D.C. All mammals share this hair-raising trait. But humans don’t have enough body hair for the response to make a difference; it’s a vestigial reflex left over from when we had furry coats, Potts says. The goose bumps people get when they’re scared may be another vestigial reflex. Potts and others theorize that aeons ago, when the plentiful hair on our ancestors’ bodies stood on end, they appeared more menacing, and, he says, “predators would move on to look for less imposing prey.”

Healthy Diet...

The healthy diet is a balanced diet, contain foods from all the food groups, low in saturated fat and refined sugar, and moderate in protein. Although we need fat and carbohydrates, we don't need excessive fat or refined sugar. Any excessive fat and carbohydrates will cause over weight and health problems.
Additionally, a healthy diet means not only eating the proper foods, but also eating them in proper proportion and at proper time.

Healthy Diet = Proper Food + Proper Proportion + Proper Time
A healthy diet concept is: "Eat to live, not live to eat". It is best if we understand that the purpose of eating is to supply our being with the energy.
All diseases take their origin in overloading the stomach. If you have no appetite, do not take anything. Let the stomach enjoy a full holiday. Vegetables and fruit, in particular, are essential for efficient metabolism and a healthy diet.

A balanced diet must contain following things in the correct proportions.

1. Carbohydrates: these provide a source of energy.
2. Proteins: these provide a source of materials for growth and repair.
3. Fats: these provide a source of energy and contain fat soluble vitamins.
4. Vitamins: these are required in very small quantities to keep you healthy.
5. Mineral Salts: these are required for healthy teeth, bones, muscles etc..
6. Fibre: this is required to help your intestines function correctly.

From researches in Japan, reseachers found that people who consumed high level of salty food and meats are more likely to have colon cancer. Strong evidence shows that plenty physical activity and a healthy diet with high amounts of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains may reduce the risk of colon cancer. On the other hand, drinking fruit and vegetable juice, getting regular exercise, could offer protection against Alzheimer's, a much-feared brain disease that affects 4.5 million people in the United States.
